If you have been playing online poker, playing at brick and mortar poker tables at casinos will force you to adjust. There are aspects of these two types of games that are just different, sometime at an extreme level, and you need to adjust yourself to these differences. Brick and mortar poker tables have different natures than online poker platform. If you are on a casino trip and your poker-playing is not as good as it was online, here are some tips you may find useful.
In online poker rooms, you don’t actually see your opponents. The only tells available is probe betting or seeing how your opponents bet over the time. In brick and mortar poker, your entire body language is screaming your hand out. Facing poker players who have been playing in casino poker tables for quite some times, you will not stand a chance. They will be able to assess the relative strength of your hand quite easily almost all the time. You need to adapt to this new challenge. Tone down your emotions and try your best to hide tells. It will also help to focus on reading your opponents’ tells, because it will keep you occupied.
You will also have to get used to certain aspects of the game. Learn how to handle chips; state your intention before making your move and be clear about everything. If you want to raise, don’t say stuff like “..I call you, and I raise you by…” because it is just not how you do it in casino poker tables. You will also feel the game is going far slower than online poker; be patient, and get used to it quickly. Being anxious will only cost you more.
